WEEK ONE: THE JOURNEY YOU DID NOT ASK TO TRAVEL
FOCUS: Week one begins with an overview of traumatic grief basics, program expectations and goals. The introduction video provides a shared understanding of traumatic grief, normalization and validation of experiences and an overview of tools and resources available to reduce pain and promote growth. Growing exercises will assist you in checking in with your grief and identify symptoms and challenges currently presenting themselves.
WEEK TWO: THE AFTERMATH - HOW TO SURVEY THE SITUATION
FOCUS: Week two will focus on understanding exactly where you, the different losses you are experiencing and what you hope to find in the future. Learning materials will provide an overview of the trauma response, explore grief and trauma symptoms you may be experiencing and present different ways to address your traumatic grief. Program materials will also help you understand your responses as normal within in the context of an abnormal situation.
WEEK THREE: TALKING ABOUT IT - HOW TO PROCESS AND UNDERSTAND YOUR STORY
FOCUS: Week three will explore healthy ways to process and explore the story of your loss in a manner that does not increase your traumatic grief symptoms. Learning materials will guide you through adaptative ways to retell your story and look for insight and meaning that may promote healing.
WEEK FOUR: DETERMINING WHAT YOU NEED AND THE TOOLS TO COPE
FOCUS: Week four focuses on understanding your grief, it’s needs and the challenges you are facing on a regular basis. Learning materials explore different coping mechanisms available to address the different dimensions of grief and the interaction between grief and trauma. Growing exercises will help you build a toolbox to contain and ease your grief and trauma symptoms.
WEEK FIVE: UNDERSTANDING THE CONCEPT OF TIME AND CONQUERING THE CALENDAR
FOCUS: Week 5 focuses on traumatic memories, emotions, and fears associated with specific dates, milestones and calendar anniversaries. Learning materials hone in on identifying and conquering your fears, developing ways to honor your loved one and creating a plan to guide you through these difficult days.
WEEK SIX: WHEN THE WORLD FEELS SCARY - CREATING A NEW NORMAL
FOCUS: Week five focuses on how to live in a world that no longer feels the same or even safe after you have experienced the traumatic death of a loved one. Learning materials will help you ground yourself when you realize that things will never return to the way they were before, and your continued existence may include living with uncertainties and the unknowns.
WEEK SEVEN: SELF-CARE IS NOT A LUXURY. IT IS A PERSCRIPTION FOR SURVIVAL
FOCUS: Week six focuses on comprehensive self-care and how acts of kindness and self-compassion towards yourself will promote healing in your grief and trauma. Learning materials will explore what is and is not self-care, different levels of self-care and pleasant event scheduling.
WEEK EIGHT: THE PAIN DOES EASE - WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE TO MOVE FORWARD WITHOUT MOVING ON
FOCUS: The concluding week of the program focuses on different ways to integrate the essence of your loved one within your life. Concepts explored include moving forward without moving on, guilt that may arise when the pain begins to ease, and igniting feelings of potential, hope and future.
